Students gather near their teacher in one of the Nora classrooms

General Information

Nora Elementary serves a diverse population of students. Our K-5 school is located in the heart of Indianapolis, and it is home to 520 students from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds. We have over 20 different languages spoken by our students and families, and for almost half of our population, English is not their native language. Our students and staff get to learn each day from the unique experiences and perspectives that our diverse population brings to our school community. Many Families, One Nora

Academic & Extracurricular Program Offerings

Our Nora teachers work hard every day to meet the individual needs of each student in their classrooms. This involves differentiated instruction depending on each student’s level and understanding of the content. During our literacy and math blocks, teachers set up stations for students to participate in targeted activities to practice skills taught during whole group instruction time. This time also allows teachers to work with students in small groups to provide more direct instruction.
Other Offerings include: Specials (Physical Education, Art, Music, Technology, and Library/Media), ENL, and Special Education (Resource, PACES, and Autism).

What are Nora’s school safety policies?
Keeping students safe is paramount at all Washington Township Schools. External doors remain locked at all times, and school resource officers are assigned to service each building. Staff carries a district-issued ID while in our school. Any visitors must check in with the front office upon arrival to ensure they are approved and to receive a name tag. District background checks are required for any volunteers that come into our school building, including parents and community partners. Our students and staff participate in monthly safety drills, including fire, tornado, and lock down, in order to ensure that we are prepared in case of an emergency.
